The Åland Islands in the Baltic Sea have extensive maritime history, warm, sunny weather, and popular outdoor activities. Although the islands are a part of Finland, they are a self-governing, autonomous territory. The 30,000 islanders (2021) mostly speak a local dialect of Swedish.
